Hey, there! I’m back with a new post! I haven’t posted a blog post in a bit, because I want to focus more on the YouTube channel right now. I felt inspired to write something new, so, here I am!
I just want to post an update about my services. If you have a business, you know that it’s normal to change things about your business. I’m always changing services I offer. Like the title says, I recently decided not to offer beta reading anymore as a service. I originally offered it as a service to do sometimes with editing. Well, beta reading turned out to be more in-demand than editing for me. Most people have been coming to me for beta reading, instead of editing. Now, don’t get me wrong, I like doing beta reading. It’s fun. It’s just not working for me anymore, because of the business. I’m a trained, skilled, professional editor and proofreader. It’s kind of an insult to me, for people to only be interested in beta reading, and not editing. Beta reading is something that regular people/readers do, and usually for free. Whenever I worked on beta reading projects, my editor brain always came out, and I couldn’t turn it off. That was bad for me, because it felt like I was doing editing, and for a very small price. That’s another issue for me. Beta reading is the service I charged the least. Sure, I was getting booked out for beta reading projects, and they kept me busy, but it’s not as great as it sounds, because I was literally making no money. I was making pennies, and that’s not enough to live. So basically, I’m not offering beta reading anymore because people are only interested in that, instead of editing, and also because I’m making literally no money from beta reading, so, it’s not worth it anymore. I want to be known as an editor, not a beta reader. And, I didn’t like that it was going in that direction. I’m a professional book editor and proofreader, and that’s what I want people to know me as. Will I do a beta reading project ever again? Maybe every once in a while, I will do a beta reading project. But mostly, I want to do editing and proofreading. I’m now offering a new service that’s replacing beta reading. It’s called “Manuscript Review.” It’s similar to beta reading, but more professional.
